About Michael

Bio
Before retirement, I worked in the medical imaging field at medical centers in California, Nevada and Washington. During that time, my responsibilities were keeping surgeons, radiologists and cardiologists satisfied with the quality of the imaging they viewed for diagnostic purposes, either digitally or on x-ray film.
Now that I have retired from that profession, I now have the ability to look at digital photography, not as a hobby, but as a journey from within that will allow me to learn things about myself and the physical world around me in my own unique way.
Artist Statement
I define my photography more like photographic art as opposed to the realism of fine art photography or photo journalism. As a photographic artist, I have the ability to enrich the photograph in such a way that I can express my personal and subjective vision of the scene, and then ultimately transfer it into the final print of high technical quality.
Why Photographic Art
-  It provides me the ability to utilize digital image processing software to enhance the RAW-files in order to transform photographs taken by a digital or film camera into a creative art form.
-  As an artist, it allows me the flexibility in post processing to modify, reduce or saturate colors and tones as I visualized the initial scene.
-  It permits me the ability to modify the composition by adding or subtracting from the initial scene without being judgmental about my interpretation.
-  As an artistic photographer, I have no external constraints restraining how I present the scene (Like the early impressionists painters of the nineteenth century, such as Monet or Renoir when painting with light).
I try to always have a camera available wherever I go,whether it is my cell phone, Olympus 4/3rd or my trustworthy Nikon FX digital camera.   One never knows what interesting items one may find while visiting various neighborhoods or locations.
I do not focus solely on any particular genre, but try to capture images that one may not see on first glance, but has a pictorial quality in my eyes.
